About Sarah Fagan

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina with about a decade of professional counseling experience. I have a wide range of experience with various demographics and concerns, but specialize in working with challenges related to family dynamics, parenting/guardianship, friendships, romantic relationships, boundaries, grief, trauma (including childhood and domestic abuse), fears and phobias, self-esteem and self-efficacy, depressive and anxiety disorders, ASD, ADHD, health issues, healthcare work, military families, and significant life changes.

I always strive to be a warm and approachable counselor who is non-judgmental, respectful, honest, and compassionate. While I maintain professionalism, I also strive to create a relaxed atmosphere during our sessions. (You can expect to see the real me, and I hope to see the real you!) Another one of my key strengths as a counselor is my adaptability; I make it a priority to understand your needs and preferences, tailoring my approach accordingly. My approach is person-centered, strengths-based and multicultural, and may combine aspects of the following:
 * Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) * Schema Therapy * Attachment-Based Therapy * Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) * Existential Therapy * Gottman Method * Mindfulness Therapy * Narrative Therapy * Play and Filial Therapy * Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
I also believe that nature, music, creativity, and humor can play important roles in mental health, and may incorporate these elements into my practice.

And, I would love to learn more about your interests and perhaps find ways to bring them into therapy! .If you think that you may ready to start a new chapter and that we might be a good match, I would be honored to accompany you, support you, and empower you on your journey toward holistic wellbeing. I look forward to getting to know you!

“Sarah is very understanding and listens well. She gives advice from different standpoints to make you understand the points she's trying to get across. She also lets us know that it's okay to feel the way we feel and offers the advice on how to overcome it.”

“Sarah is fantastic has helped me learn just how useful therapy can be. She takes a compassionate and thoughtful approach and it has helped me tremendously. Would recommend for anyone looking for support.”

“Sarah is always attentive, respectful, gentle, and suggests ideas without making me feel like I'm thinking incorrectly about anything. She validates my feelings and comes up with suggestions on how to help me process the past and present in a way that is agreeable to me...or has patience that we would eventually come up with a solution together. A wonderful therapist. ”

“Sarah is wonderful. I had a immediate connection where I know that I trust and value her in our professional relationship. ”

“She’s great! She’s helped me go about my life in a new way and think more positively.”

“I had terrible experiences with therapists - one of which I stopped believing in the practice entirely. When an event happened that I could not get past because of the level of trauma I was facing, after a series of other traumatic events, I reluctantly started these sessions. At every juncture, I was met with kindness, understanding, non-judgmental advice, and sincere compassion - when I braced myself for something for which I was expecting to be negated or reprimanded, I was validated, understood, and gently guided to think about things just a little differently. She is a wonderful therapist and I would highly recommend her. ”

“Working with Sarah has been one of the most productive periods in my life. She sees what I am feeling and puts me at ease. She is knowledgeable and compassionate. I have addressed deep feeling of shame and embarrassment and she quickly yet kindly explained that I did not have any reason to be ashamed or embarrassed with her. She truly has my best interest in mind and I hope to keep her as my therapist as long as humanly possible. ”
