About Margaret Paine

Are you feeling overwhelmed by depression, anxiety, trauma, anger, or grief? You're not alone—and you don’t have to navigate these challenges by yourself. I specialize in helping adults work through life’s difficulties with compassion, clarity, and practical support. A central focus of my work is helping you cultivate self-esteem and self-compassion. I believe healing begins with how we speak to ourselves, and I'm passionate about helping you reconnect with your best self. My approach is warm, non-judgmental, and grounded in evidence-based practices. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, and Strengths-Based approaches to help you better understand your story, develop healthier patterns of thinking, and build on the inner strengths you already have. Whether you're ready to make a change or just beginning to explore therapy, I’m here to support you with empathy, insight, and encouragement. I graduated with a MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and I am licensed in NY State as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). I am licensed in SC as Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I am also licensed in NC with LCMHC. I am also a National Certified Counselor (NCC). My professional life has included working in community Mental Health clinics with people of all ages and backgrounds. In this role I have encountered a variety of life stages and situations, such as depression, anxiety, stress and trauma related issues, career exploration, caregiver fatigue, developmental disabilities, anger management, self-esteem issues, and substance use issues. I am available through messages which I will check daily, along with live chat, video sessions or phone sessions. My calendar is available for you to schedule appointments with me. My schedule may not accurately reflect all available sessions, so please message me if you need something other than what's available. I look forward to working with you!

“Very professional and helpful”

“Margaret has been consistently supportive in helping me navigate and understand some of the challenges that I am facing. She is a very nurturing person who expresses compassion and respect for me as a patient. I am grateful to have met her and already feel the positive effects of our therapy sessions together. ”

“Margaret is very kind and a good listener. It is easy for me to tell her personal things about me with her kind and open-hearted style. She has shared several tools with me for improving my communication with others, and practical tips for recognizing and honoring my own values that I can apply to my daily life. She has been very helpful to me.”

“Margaret has been very sympathetic to me during a very difficult time. She has gotten to know me and my issues and always listens and offers practical advice and information. I feel like she's really been in my corner and given my supportive feedback and advice. She has great listening skills, very empathetic personality and is knowledgeable. ”

“Margaret is a great therapist and I always leave our sessions with greater clarity and self-compassion than I came in with. ”

“Margaret is supportive and helpful. She has been a great source of information for me to bounce ideas off of. I like the video chat format, but the email messages are also good. She responds at night mostly, but I don't mind that because I stay up fairly late. ”

“Very helpful and doesn’t judge anyone always there for someone who has depression.”

“Margaret is absolutely wonderful. I feel like she has the knowledge to know when to push me and when to let me figure out things on my own. She always offers so many ways to communicate and different resources for me. She’s great! ”

“I really like talking to Margaret. I wasn’t really considering counseling before but my friend told me about how much her therapist helps and I’m happy I decided to talk to someone. I actually didn’t even realize how deeply some things bothered me until I started talking to Margaret. She never rushes me and always answers the same or next day. She’s very supportive and when I feel like someone doesn’t understand or when I don’t want to burden my friends with negativity, she understands and listens when I need it the most. ”

“We’re still starting out and I’m getting to know her style. But so far she seems great. Very supportive, empathetic and warm.”

“Margaret is awesome! She’s kind and understanding and really listens. She lets me vent (which I normally do via messenger). She reaches out to me even when I don’t reach out to her to just check in. Initially I had another counselor for a couple days and she just didn’t care. She was absent and couldn’t schedule a talk with me until two weeks later. Margaret is wonderful and I’m so thankful for her, simply being there for me to vent when need be. ”

“Margaret Paine has been really helpful with helping me deal with difficult situations in my life. She is understanding and caring. I like that she also responds in a timely manner to anything that can be bothering me or any questions I may have. She's great.”
